In this 2026 season we are looking at positive changes. With the collobaration between the different ball leagues in Cranbrook and area, we as a whole are building a bigger and better sport in the district.
I encourage you as members of CMBA to become more involved with the association. We value positive input and views and want to hear about how we can make this great game even better in our community.
This handbook contains the operating rules of CMBA as determined by the membership. As well, as league special rules, dates and age groups are included in this handbook.

Board of Directors Role Descriptions
President
Overview:
The President is the chief executive officer of the Association and provides leadership to the Board and membership. The President oversees all operations of CMBA, ensuring that programs run smoothly and in accordance with Association policies and Baseball BC/Softball BC guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
· Chair all Board and general meetings.
· Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Association.
· Act as the primary spokesperson for CMBA in the community and with partner organizations.
· Ensure all Association policies and bylaws are followed.
· Work closely with directors to coordinate programs, resolve issues, and support volunteers.
Vice-President
Overview:
The Vice-President supports the President and assumes their duties when the President is unavailable. This role ensures continuity and assists with the overall administration of CMBA.
Key Responsibilities:
· Assist the President with the general operation of the Association.
· Oversee special projects or committees as needed.
· Ensure effective communication between all divisions and directors.
· Step into the President’s role in their absence.
Director of Baseball
Overview:
The Director of Baseball oversees all baseball divisions (typically 11U and above) to ensure consistent programming, coaching support, and player development.
Key Responsibilities:
· Coordinate team formation, schedules, and evaluations for baseball divisions.
· Liaise with Baseball BC and other associations on rules, tournaments, and league play.
· Support coaches with resources and guidance.
· Ensure fields, equipment, and uniforms are ready for the season.
Director of Softball
Overview:
The Director of Softball manages all softball divisions, ensuring quality programming and development opportunities for all players.
Key Responsibilities:
· Coordinate registration, team placement, and schedules for softball divisions.
· Act as the primary contact with Softball BC and regional leagues.
· Recruit and support coaches.
· Oversee tournaments and playoff participation.
Vice Director of Baseball
Overview:
The Vice Director of Baseball assists the Director of Baseball and helps manage operations within the baseball program.
Key Responsibilities:
· Support player evaluations, team formation, and communications.
· Assist with organizing tournaments, schedules, and field allocations.
· Step into the Director of Baseball role when needed.
Vice Director of Softball
Overview:
The Vice Director of Softball assists the Director of Softball in organizing and managing the softball program.
Key Responsibilities:
· Support team selection, scheduling, and communication with coaches and parents.
· Help organize tournaments and league participation.
· Act as a backup to the Director of Softball when required.
Secretary
Overview:
The Secretary manages all administrative records and communications for the Association.
Key Responsibilities:
· Record and distribute minutes for all Board and general meetings.
· Maintain official records, correspondence, and documentation.
· Manage and distribute Association communications and notices.
· Assist with registration and volunteer coordination when needed.
Treasurer
Overview:
The Treasurer manages the financial affairs of the Association and ensures fiscal responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
· Maintain accurate financial records and bank accounts.
· Prepare budgets and regular financial reports for the Board.
· Collect fees, pay invoices, and track expenditures.
· Oversee financial compliance and annual reporting requirements.
Umpire in Chief
Overview:
The Umpire in Chief oversees all aspects of umpire recruitment, training, and scheduling for both baseball and softball.
Key Responsibilities:
· Recruit, train, and evaluate umpires.
· Schedule umpires for games and tournaments.
· Act as a liaison between umpires, coaches, and the Association.
· Ensure rules and safety standards are upheld during play.
Director of Player and Coach Development
Overview:
This role focuses on improving skill development, sportsmanship, and knowledge for all players and coaches.
Key Responsibilities:
· Organize coaching clinics and player development sessions.
· Provide resources and mentorship for coaches.
· Work with Directors of Baseball and Softball to align development goals.
· Support skill evaluations and player progression tracking.
Director of Sponsorship
Overview:
The Director of Sponsorship leads efforts to secure and maintain community and corporate partnerships that support CMBA operations.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and manage sponsorship packages and agreements.
· Solicit and maintain relationships with sponsors.
· Ensure sponsor recognition across uniforms, fields, and social media.
· Coordinate sponsor invoicing and acknowledgments.
Director of Rep Teams
Overview:
The Director of Rep Teams oversees the competitive (AA/AAA) baseball and softball programs.
Key Responsibilities:
· Organize and oversee tryouts and team selection.
· Support rep team coaches and managers.
· Coordinate travel, tournaments, and player registration with governing bodies.
· Act as liaison between rep teams and the CMBA Board.
Director of Challenger
Overview:
The Director of Challenger oversees CMBA’s Challenger Baseball program, ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment for players with diverse abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
· Coordinate player registration and volunteer “buddies.”
· Organize schedules, uniforms, and equipment.
· Promote accessibility and inclusion within the Association.
· Communicate with Baseball BC Challenger Program for guidance and support.
Director of Uniforms and Equipment
Overview:
The Director of Uniforms and Equipment ensures all teams have the gear they need for safe and successful play.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manage inventory, ordering, and distribution of uniforms and equipment.
· Coordinate collection and maintenance of equipment after each season.
· Ensure proper safety standards and quality of gear.
· Work with Directors of Baseball and Softball to meet team needs.

CMBA encourages the inclusivity of all participants. Therefore, there will be NO unsanctioned practices using CMBA equipment or on fields. All communication for off season activities must be communicated to all participants of that age group. If this practice is not followed, CMBA may impose sanctions against the offending parties.
Descriptions of Programs
🎉 BlastBall!®
A fun, introductory program focused on skill stations (throwing, hitting, catching, fielding) followed by short games with tees, soft bats, and nerf balls. Parent participation is required.

- Bring: glove, batting helmet, protective cup
- Clothing: sweatpants/athletic pants/baseball pants (no jeans/shorts)
- Footwear: rubber cleats or runners
? 7U Baseball
Coached by Paul Mrazek and supported by Senior Bandit players, this division introduces game play while also serving as a coach mentorship program.
Equipment:
- Provided: team shirt, hat, balls, bats, catcher’s gear
- Bring: glove, batting helmet, protective cup
- Clothing: sweatpants/athletic pants/baseball pants (no jeans/shorts)
- Footwear: rubber cleats or runners
? 9U Baseball
Builds on 7U skills with a focus on hitting, throwing, catching, and game awareness. Players are randomly placed on teams (requests considered but not guaranteed).
Equipment:
- Provided: team shirt, hat, balls, bats, catcher’s gear
- Bring: glove, batting helmet, protective cup
- Clothing: sweatpants/athletic pants/baseball pants (no jeans/shorts)
- Footwear: rubber cleats or runners
? 11U Baseball
Further develops core skills with added focus on game understanding. Includes inter-community games with Kimberley, Invermere, and Creston.

- Footwear: rubber cleats or runners
? 13U Baseball
Players refine skills and expand game knowledge. Games scheduled against Kimberley, Creston, and Invermere. Uses 46/70 field dimensions.

? 15U Baseball
Focuses on advanced skill development and game play with matchups against nearby communities. Season begins with two weeks of practices, then games/practices twice per week.

- Footwear: rubber cleats or runners

Emphasizes refining advanced skills with games against Kimberley, Creston, Invermere, and Golden. Includes weekend travel games. Season starts with practices before moving into games twice per week.

Introductory division focused on core skills—hitting, throwing, catching, and learning basic gameplay. Players build confidence while having fun and learning fundamentals.

🥎 U11 Softball
Builds on U9 skills with a balance of practice and game play each night. Emphasis on continued skill growth while enjoying friendly competition.

🥎 U13 Softball
Expands on U11 with greater focus on hitting, throwing, catching, and overall game awareness. Players continue to develop fundamentals in a safe and fun environment.

- Bring: Glove, batting helmet with cage, jill/pelvic protector, athletic/sweat/baseball pants (no jeans/shorts)
- Footwear: Rubber cleats or runners
🥎 U15/U17 Softball
Builds on U13 with advanced skill refinement and stronger game awareness. Players further strengthen fundamentals while enjoying competitive play.
Gear:
- Provided: Team jersey (to keep) & hat
- Bring: Glove, batting helmet with cage, jill/pelvic protector, athletic/sweat/baseball pants (no jeans/shorts)
- Footwear: Rubber cleats (non-metal recommended) or runners
2026 Player Movement Policy
Players registered within Cranbrook Minor Ball must play within their specified division based on their year of birth as of December 31. If a parent believes that their player is capable in all aspects of baseball/ softball to compete at a higher age division, they must meet the following criteria;
- Pay an additional $75 evaluation fee
- Inform Cranbrook Minor Ball of their players evaluation intentions no later than two (2) weeks prior to evaluation dates. Absolutely No exceptions will be given after the 2 week period.
- Players must be no more than one (1) year of age younger than the upper age group division (ie: a first year 9U player can not evaluate for 11U division, however a second year 9U player can) A player must meet the following evaluation criteria to move up one age division;
- Evaluate within the top 5 percentile of the upper age group division
- Score a total aggregate of 14 out of 15 in the evaluation process (hitting, throwing, fielding)
Final movement is at the discretion of the Cranbrook Minor Ball Board while considering the following:
- A) Feedback provided from the evaluators
- B) Overall aggregate score
- C) Player safety
There will be absolutely no player movement after the start of the baseball/ softball season, and no movement if there has not been a pre-season evaluation conducted.
Developmental, All-Star & Travel Teams
House games and practices will take precedence over any developmental, all-star & travel teams
All developmental, all-star & travel players must play on house teams.
Developmental, all-star & travel teams are open to all athletes registered with CMBA in the current year. If needed, players from other associations may be invited to join developmental, all-star & travel teams.
Athletes will play in appropriate division of developmental, all-star & travel teams. (Some exceptions may apply based on individual cases)
Any indoor (winter) practices will be available to all athletes of the age group provided.
All coaches wishing to coach a developmental, all-star & travel team must apply to CMBA and be approved to coach a division. Applications available online at cranbrookminorball.net.
All fees for developmental, all-star & travel teams are in addition to house fees.
Each Developmental/ All Star Team will be provided with the following for the year and must be returned in good condition at the end of the season.
- 1 set of catcher’s equipment
- 2 dozen New balls (baseball) 1 dozen New balls (softball)
- 3 bats (varying lengths & weights)
Each Developmental/ All Star Team is responsible for the following:
- Tournament Fees
- Jersey costs (each athlete keeps their jersey and may use in upcoming years)
- Umpire costs
- Non parent coach costs (if applicable)
- Other apparel that team wishes to have (CMBA will order from suppliers)
- Equipment that is not provided by CMBA
- Any other costs team incurs
A budget must be submitted for the team prior to season starting and CMBA will invoice each parent. Budgets need to be submitted to CMBA prior to start of season.
Coaches are responsible for players’ fees to be paid to CMBA. CMBA will keep coaches updated on players’ who still owe bi-weekly.
All monies will be disbursed by CMBA by e-transfer to coaches as needed.
Any fund raising monies left over at the end of the season will be placed in developmental account for future seasons. Monies left over from players’ fees will be returned to players after all expenses have been paid.
All practices must be booked through CMBA.
Non- parent coaches
Only 1 per team
The team is responsible to pay for the non-parent coache’s hotel room for out of town tournaments, $50/ day for food and gas expenses.
All coaching staff must have a valid criminal record check. To get the code email CMBA
Softball developmental coaches need to have a valid SBBC # and submit to CMBA. As well, at least one coach must have the minimum coaching certificate required for the level being coached.
Developmental/ Allstar team is open to all athletes registered with CMBA in that particular age group. Tryout times and schedules will be sent out by CMBA.
All correspondence between Developmental/ Allstar teams and parents/ guardians shall be cc’d to CMBA
All players will play the minimum number of innings as put forth in the All Star Handbook.
All coaches will abide by the CMBA Coaches’ Code of Conduct.
Rules
U11 Softball
- All players shall be given equal playing time, infield and outfield.
- ? No more than two innings at a single position.
- We will be using a modified pitching rule this season. Please ask questions if you have any. See the bottom for instructions
- May play with 6 players without forfeiting the game. The 7th, 8th and 9th batting positions are not an automatic out.
- All players bat. Unlimited substitution.
- Five run maximum per inning. No new inning after 1 hour 15 min.
- Batting team supplies umpire (when not supplied by CMBA).
- Scorebook records must be kept and emailed to cmba@outlook.com with team names and scores after each game. Scorebooks must be turned into your division head at the end of the season.
- Both teams supply field maintenance before and after the games.
- All players must wear the required protective equipment, including helmets for batters and base runners.
- All slides must be safe (slide or avoid).
- All players must remain in the dugout unless they are fielding, batting or the on deck batter.
- No foul language.
- No Infield Fly Rule
- GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP IS A MUST FOR PLAYERS, COACHES AND SPECTATORS.
- All other softball rules apply from Softball BC.
- Please hustle in and out of the field. We are trying to encourage teams to play more innings this year and have a more engaging and fun brand of softball for the kids.
Modified Pitching Rule :
- No walking to reach base. Players must hit their way on.
- Pitchers must throw to each batter
- Pitching machine will be used for each batter. If batter strikes out using the pitching machine a tee will be brought in to hit and play will proceed.
- The hitter will not advance to 1st base on a walk.
- The tee will enter the game as many times as needed based on the four-ball count being reached with each batter.
- The umpire will call the safe/out once the ball is hit and put into play.
- If a player is hit by pitch, it will be the player’s option to take a ball and continue their at bat.
All other Softball Divisions
- Only coaches and players in the dugout during games.
- All players shall be given equal playing time, infield and outfield.
- May play with 8 players without forfeiting the game. The 9th batting position is not an automatic out.
- All players bat. Unlimited substitution.
- Five run maximum per inning. Except for last inning, which is open. Maximum 6 innings/game. No new inning after 1 hour 20 min.
- Stealing home is allowed.
- Stealing any base is allowed. However, runner CANNOT steal home once pitcher has control of ball within pitching circle. (10 ft. diameter)
- Runners may only slide feet first, head first slides while advancing will result in the runner being called out. Runners may “dive” back when returning to a base.
- Home team supplies umpire (when not supplied by CMBA) and official scorekeeper.
- Umpire(s) have final say.
- Scorebook records must be kept and emailed to cmba@outlook.com with team names and scores after each game. Scorebooks must be turned into your division head at the end of the season.
- Visiting team supplies field maintenance before and after the games.
- All players must wear the required protective equipment, including helmets for batters and base runners.

- No foul language.
- No fake bunt then changing to a full swing.
- GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP IS A MUST FOR PLAYERS, COACHES AND SPECTATORS.
- Please hustle in and out of the field. We are trying to encourage teams to play more innings this year and have a more engaging and fun brand of baseball for the kids.
All Softball BC rules apply and coaches are encouraged to know their rule book.
9U DIVISION BASEBALL (MACHINE PITCH and Player Pitch)
- The 9U Baseball division is open to players age 8-9 years old.
- Players are randomly placed on teams. Cranbrook Minor Ball Association will attempt to accommodate as many team mate and coach requests as possible, but they are not guaranteed.
- Players will receive a team shirt and hat as their uniform. CMBA will provide equipment to each team including balls, catchers gear, and bats. Players must bring their own glove, and batting helmet. Players must wear a protective cup, sweat pants/athletic pants/baseball pants, but no jeans or shorts are allowed. Players may wear rubber cleats or running shoes.
- Players are encouraged to arrive 15 to 30 minutes prior for a proper warm up.
- The goal of 9U Baseball is to build on the foundational skills learned in 7U Baseball and to increase each player's ability to hit, throw, catch, and build a better awareness of game play. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, and instructional environment for kids to learn the FUNdamentals and enjoy the game of baseball.
9U BASEBALL DIVISION RULES
Fielding
- All players play in the field. Players are to be rotated each inning so that everybody has a chance to spend some time at multiple positions. Note: If you have a player that has trouble catching thrown balls, do not put this person on first base or at catcher until they are comfortable but do not “bury” players in the outfield.
- Each team may have a maximum of 10 players for fielding with one player being assigned as a rover and placed in shallow outfield. One player will be assigned as pitcher. Teams are not permitted to station two pitchers in the infield, or to station any extra players in the infield.
- The catcher must wear full protective gear.
- Once the ball comes back into the infield and any player has possession all play stops.
- Coaches are encouraged to be in the field with players to ensure proper positional play and to provide some game play assistance. Coaches are not permitted to touch a ball in play. If so, play is ruled dead and base runners will advance 1 additional base.
Pitching
- The pitching machine operator will be the coach of the team that is on offence. The operator will show the ball to the batter before placing it on the lever. The ball to be used is a “mush” ball. NO HARDBALLS PERMITTED! The pitching machine operator must be attentive to throws coming from the third base side of the circle to first base, moving out of the way or ducking to avoid interference.
- Pitching will be done by each team's coach or assistant coach. Coaches will pitch to the ability of the batter. Halfway through the season, players may start pitching.
- Each batter receives a maximum of 6 pitches in which to hit the ball (can be extended for foul balls on the last pitch). If after 6 pitches, there has not been a hit (in fair territory) the batter will be called out.
- There are no walks or strikeouts, but a 6-pitch maximum rule for speed of play.
- The pitching machine will be positioned at a distance of 40 - 45 feet from home plate. The speed will be set (by mutual agreement of both coaches) and will not be changed during the game. The pitching machine operator may only adjust the height of the pitches.
- Any batted ball that hits the pitching machine or pitching machine operator will be called dead. The batter will be awarded first base and only runners forced to advance will do so. · Pitching machine operators should not catch balls thrown to them unless the ball has been declared dead.
- The pitcher is not to stand in front of the pitching machine and shall receive all thrown balls on either side of the pitching machine to give to machine operator.
- A pitch which is over the batter's head or bounces in the dirt will be ruled a no pitch regardless of if batter swings or not.
Batting
- All players present shall be listed on the team's batting line-up and shall bat in that order. Any late arrivals shall be placed at the bottom of the batting order.
- Bunting is not permitted, automatic out. Length of game
- Games should last at least three innings or the maximum time of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The players’ attention spans will dictate the length of the game. Only continue playing as long as the clear majority are having fun and enjoying the game. Scoring
- First 2 innings there is a 2 run maximum or 3 outs
- Innings 3 and 4 there will be a 5 run maximum or 3 outs
- Inning 5 is open runs (no maximum)
Miscellaneous
- Hustle in and out of dugout to increase speed of play.
- There is no stealing, even on passed balls or over throws.
- Infield fly rule does not apply.
- Players are to remain in dugout when not in the field.
- Umpires’ decision is the final decision.
- Be respectful of the players, coaches, and umpires
11U BASEBALL DIVISION RULES
Game Length
- Games will be 6 innings or 1 hour 30 minutes, whichever comes first.
- Mercy Rule 10 runs after 5 innings.
- When time expires, teams will complete the end of the inning unless the home team is ahead, and they will only complete the top half of the inning.
- Games that are tied at the end of 6 innings or after time has expired will be remain a tie.
Participation
- All players will bat in the lineup throughout the game.
- It is recommended (not required) that coaches should change the lineup for every game. Players that are at the bottom of the lineup in game 1 should be rotated to the top of the lineup for game 2.
- Free defensive substitution will be allowed for all players except the pitcher.
- All players must play a minimum of 1 inning in the outfield for a regulation game. Coaches should establish a rotation so that all players have played a minimum of 1 defensive inning in the outfield by the end of the game.
- Players should rotate positions at a minimum of every two innings.

Volunteers
In order for Cranbrook Minor Ball Association to be successful for all participants, volunteers are needed for various positions. If these positions are not filled and must be completed by an executive, they will do their best but it may not be up to par.
Head Coach -- The Head Coach reports to Division Coordinator. The Head Coach is responsible for running the team - including practices and games. Must learn division playing rules. Instruct players in proper baseball/softball skills. Involve parents with the team and league activities. Works with the Team Parent to assign job responsibilities according to the needs of the team. Must be available to attend all evaluations for their division as well as the team draft or assignment meeting in April (or earlier depending on division and team). Makes sure players and parents have fun. One Head Coach per team, per division. IN THE EVENT THAT YOU ARE NOT APPROVED AS A HEAD COACH, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO FULFILL A DIFFERENT VOLUNTEER JOB FROM THE REMAINING JOBS AVAILABLE.
Assistant Coach -- The Assistant Coach reports to Head Coach. The Assistant Coach helps to instruct players in baseball / softball skills. Helps at practices and games. All Assistant Coaches will take on the following team safety officer responsibilities: inspecting player's equipment, before each practice and game. Up to 2 assistant coaches per team per team. IN THE EVENT THAT YOU ARE NOT APPROVED AS AN ASSISTANT COACH, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO FULFILL A DIFFERENT VOLUNTEER JOB FROM THE REMAINING JOBS AVAILABLE. Note about Coaching: At CMBA we strive to provide all our coaches with the skills necessary to excel at the job of coaching our children. All CMBA coaches are required to attend coaching clinics provided by CMBA
Pre Season field developmental & equipment bunker helpers -- Volunteers must be able to lift approx 20 kg and be willing to get a little dirty! Duties will include checking and replenishing supplies in each equipment bunker, lining, painting and raking fields, putting up fencing or screens and other things needed to be done including signage. A large vehicle would be helpful but not necessary.
Volunteer Coordinator -- The volunteer coordinator will track volunteer hours. Compile information from managers, team and dugout parents, division heads and executive for fulfillment of hours. The volunteer coordinator will submit to CMBA and CMBA will reimburse those parents who have fulfilled their required time.
Social Media Policy
The purpose of this policy is to educate the CMBA Community on the risks of social media and to ensure all Teams and Association personnel are aware that conduct deemed to be inappropriate may be subject to disciplinary action by the Team, and/or Cranbrook Minor Ball Association.
Because social media violations may vary in terms of their seriousness and effect, care must be taken to consider sanctions that are appropriate in each situation that presents itself. That is not to say that these types of violations are minor, but rather, some may be more serious than others. This document is intended to assist Cranbrook Minor Ball Association as they assess social media violations.
Factors that can be considered when dealing with social media violations include:
- The intent of the violator
- Whether harm, physical or otherwise, resulted from the violation
- The circumstances of the violation
- The effect the violation had upon its recipient, the recipient’s family, the team, the Association, or the community
- Any previous social media violation history
Possible disciplinary measures therefore depend on a number of factors. Please consider the following suggested responses for various conducts:
- Implicit or implied threats of death or serious bodily harm: indefinite suspension, referral to CMBA Executive for investigation and punishment (also refer to police) - Encouraging someone to do themselves serious harm: indefinite suspension, referral to CMBA Executive for investigation
- Posting of pictures of a threatening nature: indefinite suspension, referral to CMBA Executive for investigation and punishment (also refer to police) - Slurs against someone’s race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation: lengthy suspension - Slurs against another or their family: warning or short suspension - Posting comments and/or pictures of self of an implied sexual nature: short suspension - Posting comments and/or pictures of someone else of an implied sexual nature: indefinite suspension, referral to CMBA Executive for investigation and punishment (also may refer to police) - Gossip - Posting or sending cruel gossip to damage a person’s reputation and relationships with friends, family, and acquaintances: warning or short suspension
- Breaking into someone’s e-mail or other online account and sending messages that will cause embarrassment or damage to the person’s reputation and affect his or her relationship with others: indefinite suspension, referral to CMBA Executive for investigation and punishment (also refer to police)
- Posting or sending unwanted or intimidating messages: suspension
- Tricking someone into revealing secrets or embarrassing information, which is then CMBA read online: short suspension
- Negative or derogatory comments about Team, etc.: warning or short suspension
- INTRODUCTION
For the purpose of this Social Media and Networking Policy, the policy will encompass public communications through such internet mediums and websites as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Foursquare, Instagram, SnapChat and any other social media network that allows users to communicate online as well as other forms of electronic communication, but not limited to, methods such as ‘BBM’ or ‘texting’.
The policy will be applicable to all members of the CMBA Community, including Directors, Teams, CMBA members and staff, on-field and off-field officials, players, players’ family members and supporters. The CMBA recognizes and appreciates the value of social media and the importance of social networking to all of its stakeholders. The CMBA also respects the right of all Teams and Association personnel to express their views publicly. At the same time we must be aware of the dangers social media and networking can present.
The purpose of this policy is to educate the CMBA Community on the risks of social media and to ensure all Teams and Association personnel are aware that conduct deemed to be inappropriate may be subject to disciplinary action by the Team, and/or CMBA.
- SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES
- The CMBA holds the entire CMBA Community who participates in social media and networking to the same standards as it does for all other forms of media including radio, television and print.
- Comments or remarks of an inappropriate nature which are detrimental to a Team, the Association or an individual will not be tolerated and will be subject to disciplinary action.
- It should be recognized that social media and comments such as ‘texting’ are on the record and can be instantly published and available to the public and media. Everyone including Association and/or Team personnel, players, corporate partners and the media can review social media communications. You should conduct yourself in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.
- Refrain from divulging confidential information of a personal or team related nature. Avoid revealing business or game strategy that could provide another team or individual a competitive advantage. Furthermore, do not discuss injury information about any player. Only divulge information that is considered public.
- Use your best judgment at all times - pause before posting or sending. Once your comments are posted or sent they cannot be retracted. Ultimately, you are solely responsible for your comments.
- If requested to participate in an online network, as a direct result of your affiliation with or participation in CMBA, the CMBA recommends that you request approval from the Team or the Association.
- SOCIAL MEDIA VIOLATIONS
The following are examples of conduct through social media and networking mediums that are considered violations of the CMBA Social Media and Networking Policy and may be subject to disciplinary action by the Team, and/or CMBA.
- Any statement deemed to be publicly critical of Association officials or detrimental to the welfare of a member Team, the Association or an individual.
- Divulging confidential information that may include, but is not limited to the following:
- player injuries;
- player movement;
- game strategies; or
- any other matter of a sensitive nature to a member Team, the Association or an individual.
- Negative or derogatory comments about any of the Team, and/or CMBA executive, programs, stakeholders, players or any member of a CMBA Team.
- Any form of bullying, harassment, intimidation or threats against players or officials.
- Photographs, video or comments promoting negative influences or criminal behavior, including but not limited to:
- drug use,
- alcohol abuse,
- public intoxication,
- hazing
- sexual exploitation, etc.
- Online activity that contradicts the current policies of the CMBA.
- Inappropriate, derogatory, racist, or sexist comments of any kind, in keeping with the CMBA policies and regulations on these matters.
- Online activity that is meant to alarm other individuals or to misrepresent fact or truth.
- DISCIPLINE
The Team, or CMBA will investigate reported violation(s) of this policy in the manner set out in the CMBA Handbook for other types of violations. If the investigation determines that a violation has occurred, the Team, and/or the CMBA executive will impose an appropriate suspension. Any appeal of the suspension will be dealt with as set out in CMBA policies.
- SUMMARY
When using social media and networking mediums, the CMBA community should assume at all times they are representing the CMBA and/or its member Associations or Teams. All members of the CMBA community should remember to use the same discretion with texting, etc., social media and networking as they do with other traditional forms of media.
Should the identity or image of any member of the CMBA community be used in social media and networking without the Individual, Team or Association authorization, this is considered to be identity theft. Please notify your CMBA Team Management or the CMBA Office immediately. Any use of a player or team member’s image or likeness without the written consent of the CMBA is strictly prohibited.

Conduct for Managers, Coaches, Players, Parents and Spectators
Jurisdiction
Cranbrook Minor Ball Association (CMBA) is committed to providing an environment in which all individuals are treated with respect. CMBA supports equal opportunity and prohibits discriminatory practices. Participants are expected to always conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the values of CMBA.
The Handbook includes all events, meetings, and gatherings where baseball/ softball is the focal point of the assembly. This includes but is not limited to games, tournaments, practices, places where people watch as a spectator, and off-field conduct during team sanctioned road trips. Participants are subject to sanctions according to CMBA Discipline Policy for engaging in any of the following behavior:
- Not complying with the rules, regulations, or policies of
- Deliberately disregarding the Rules of Baseball/ Softball, as amended from time to
- Verbally or physically abusing an opponent, officials, Umpires, spectators, or
- Showing disrespect to officials, including the use of foul language and obscene or offensive gestures.
- Abusing playing equipment or playing
- failing to comply with the conditions of entry of an event including any rules regarding eligibility or advertising.
- Anyone at any age using tobacco, cannabis, non-prescription drugs, or alcoholic products on-field at any CMBA sanctioned competition.
- Any other unreasonable conduct which brings the game into
- Any violation of the Baseball BC/ Softball BC Safe Sport
The CMBA Code of Conduct shall govern all disciplinary matters. CMBA reserves the right to adopt and amend polices and rules within the Hand Book as required for the safety of all participants.
Player, Coach, Parent and Spectator Expected Behavior
- Players, managers, or coaches engaging or persisting in conduct or actions unfavorable to the spirit, principles and objectives of good sportsmanship may, if the Umpire deems it appropriate, receive one warning from the If the offence or offences continue, offender or offenders will be removed from the game.
- Parents and spectators attending CMBA sanctioned events are expected to role model appropriate behavior for the youth players competing on the field. When conflict situations occur, parents and spectators are expected to resolve the conflict appropriately. Players, coaches, and Umpires have the right to participate in the game without being subjected to abuse or distractions from outside the playing field.
Examples of unacceptable behavior include but are not limited to showing disrespect to Umpires, opposing players, coaches, parents and league administrators. This includes taunting, insulting language, angry outbursts, gestures, and physical aggression. Coaches are expected to make their best efforts to ensure these expectations are met by their parents and supporters. Any parent or spectator that fails to meet these expectations may be asked to leave the area surrounding the field by the coach and, or the Umpires.
- The Umpire may speak directly to the individual being asked to leave or may choose to have the appropriate coach communicate this decision to the parent.
- If a parent or spectator refuses to leave the area surrounding the field the Umpire may suspend the game without making any judgment as to the final score, which will be determined by the CMBA. Any CMBA Director may request that a parent or spectator leave the area surrounding the field of play.
- The CMBA shall review reports submitted in writing regarding unacceptable behavior and may contact the affected members of the Association as deemed appropriate and, or issue discipline as warranted.
Prohibition of Cannabis, Tobacco, Alcohol and Non-Prescription Drugs
- Non-Prescription Drugs, whether lawful or unlawful, and alcohol are always prohibited on the playing field from the warmup, during game play, and the equipment clean up after the game.
- The consumption of alcohol is not permitted at CMBA sanctioned
- Coaches, players, managers, parents, spectators and Umpires, or any Official must not use cannabis, tobacco products including smokeless tobacco or e-cigarettes on the playing field. If anyone is found using of any of the above-mentioned items, they will be ejected from the game by an Umpire or Official.
- Coaches, Players, Managers, Parents, Umpires, or any Official must not be on the playing field, benches, dugouts, or any areas within the boundaries of the playing field while in possession of or impaired by any legal or illegal substance.
Travesty of the Game
- This rule will apply to all CMBA sanctioned games, with particular emphasis in tournament situations. Travesty of the game is defined as an attempt to intentionally lengthen or shorten a game or manipulate the score of a game by any means that has players “not playing to win”. This would include batters or runners obviously attempting to make outs, pitchers obviously trying to miss the strike zone when pitching and fielders obviously trying to make errors. The penalties for making a travesty of the game will be the ejection of the Head Coach.
- This rule may be enforced by the Umpires or a Tournament Director. The game will be defaulted and if the travesty continues during a tournament, disqualification of the team from the remainder of the tournament. Written reports by Umpires will be forwarded to the CMBA Discipline Chair as soon as practically Additional sanctions may be levied by the CMBA Discipline Chair at any time and my extend to the players involved
